looking back

I've always had a thing for jewelry and wearable ornaments... not the sparkly stuff though...
But I only started making my own some 13 years ago while I was still an art student... the coin only dropped in my third year of studying sculpture... I could make beads and with those beads I could make my own jewelry! Here are a necklace and a few bracelets I made then...

On my last year of studying sculpture, I was given the opportunity to take part in an exhibition about Charlemagne in the Karl Ludwig Museum in Aachen (Germany)... it was called "Charlemagne 2000".
This lost wax casting in pewter was made for that event... I made a few other things... some I gave away, some got lost... maybe I'll find them when I do the attic's spring cleaning... we'll see...

Have a great week! :)

I agree, very cool.
Did coming across this make you want to do more lost wax casting?
It would be fun to see what direction you would go with it now.

I often wonder how my art would have transformed had I been able to attend art school, but being a Virgo, it's hard to get me to change into new directions, but I'm always fascinated by other people's work...great stuff and how fun!

I agree, making one's own beads is the pinnacle of creative control. Something to which I aspire. Blending my work with collected beads, and having exactly the shape and size object I imagines. I either have too many beads and not enough interesting interspersible objects like charms, focals, connectors, findings, or too many elements and not enough beads in the right sizes and colors with which to connect them. I envision a perfect world where I have the freedom and wherewithal to make whatever I need to complement the wonderful beads I hoard!

You, Steph, are an inspiration!

Fun stuff! I hope you find the other ones. I am anxious to see them.
I've been playing with clay too lately. You've inspired me.

I would love to talk about art school with all of you... Steph it sounds like you went recently-ish... I went in 76-79 and now have a kid nearing college age. My question.. Has the cost of college ( in America, anyway) rendered art school an obsolete idea? Should any young artist put him/herself in debt for a hundred thousand dollars or more... Or just start practicing? I value my art education... So much. I can tell you do as well! But omg... How will any artist pay down those loans? Etsy? I don't think so! But art school was such an amazing experience, and I feel so lucky. Must call parents today and thank them for that... They were supportive and did not try to stand in my way.

So, to wild thing I wonder... How would my life and work Have been different without art school?
